Meeting Minutes

October 23, 2007

Meeting called to order at 7:00 PM by Art Beveridge and the group was led in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Adoption of the Agenda — Accepted with one addition (#5. Emigh Run)

Adoption of Minutes — September 2007 minutes accepted with one addition.

Treasurer’s Report — General Fund - $483.00. Just received all reimbursement from DEP last week. Will pay outstanding invoices to New Miles of Blue Stream and report totals next month.

Old Business:
Growing Greener Grant — No news.

WREN Grant — Final report to be finished on October 24, 2007.

Trout Run/Rt. 970 Permit & Design Sites — Alder Run Engineering will be local contact now for New Miles of Blue Stream. Bad news: a little short on dollars for design work. A grant application for $15,000.00 for permitting and design is available. Carl made a motion to apply for the grant. Mike seconded the motion and the motion was passed. Art and Dave will need to sign the application. New sites were surveyed. More design work will be done in November 2007.

Spring Creek Canyon — Hearing on October 25, 2007 from 11 AM to 3:00 PM at CPI in Pleasant Gap. The hearing is open to the public.

New Business:
Newsletter — Art wrote an article about the Trout Run Assessment. This article will go in newsletter and on the MCWC website. Art also has photos. Art asked Jen to do an article about grants and suggested that Centre County and Clearfield County water specialists add a short blurb or two to the newsletter.

February Guest Speaker Meeting — Art has a call into a representative of the Karthaus power plant.

New Grant Applications — A new application for $15,000.00 to be submitted this week.

Black Moshannon Project — We need to think of possible projects to do.

Emigh Run — Groundbreaking for headwaters relocation. New stream channel will be constructed. More designs are done for future work — just need construction funds.

Other items:

Center for Watershed Stewardship, a program with PSU, may want to work with us on a project or two. They do assessments, mapping, reports, etc. They want a one or two page letter submitted by December 5, 2007 for possible ideas. It was suggested that we propose studies of how growth could affect our watershed — urban impact, roadways, business sites, etc.

Art got paperwork for 2008 Watershed Festival reservation to be filled out and submitted.

We tossed around ideas of engaging school students with watershed concerns.

New Membership Application Time — No new applications.

Next Meeting November 27, 2007.

Meeting adjourned at 8:30 PM
