Meeting Minutes

July 28, 2009

The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance at 7:00 pm.

Adoption of the Agenda — Agenda accepted with three additions.

Adoption of Minutes — The June minutes were accepted as written.

Treasurer’s Report — Treasurer not present.

Old Business:
Growing Greener Grant — Moshannon Creek Headwaters Assessment and Restoration plan is completed. Should schedule a special meeting to present this to the public.

Watershed Festival — Planning is almost complete. Some more donations are needed. Lezzer Lumber has donated their trailer/stage. 3 possible civic groups have expressed interest in providing food. Art and Dick Haney have generators that they will provide for the day. The Wagon Train will appear and stay for several hours. Need to supply water test kits to show how we sample. Vance Dunbar from PA Fish and Boat Commission is scheduled to appear with snakes. Kelly will bring the stream table. Possibly do a PowerPoint presentation to show more about MCWC. Possibly have a presentation about Osceola Mills and/or displays. Need tables for displays – ask the Osceola Mills VFW. Meet at the pool Sunday at 10:00 AM to start setting up. Need more media blitz for the festival.

Educational Tour — August 21, 2009, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM – Art to do overview of MCWC. Kelly will do “AMD 101”. Becky and Rachel will speak about the tour/workshop/Trout Unlimited. Larry K. will cover brief history of mining in the area. Someone will do a photo tour of the West Branch Susquehanna. Need a menu for $500 or less. Leave for tour by 1:00 PM. Bus seats 45 people. Show a bad spot – near pool. A stop at Warriors Mark Shooting Club, showcases a cooperative landowner. Second stop will be Bucket Line Road. Rushton would be a good choice and Morgan Run could be another good choice.

Beaver Run — July 30 & 31 at Houtzdale for the Habitat Rehab. Supplies and some volunteers are lined up. More volunteers are needed.

Trout Run — Permit applications need signed. Need to meet in order to review. Rich made a motion for Art to sign the permits. Joan seconded the motion. The motion was passed.

New Business:
Donation Request Letter(s) — New letters have been sent.

Car Show — August 9, $10 to put up a display. No one is available to man a display. Rachel will check to see if someone from Trout Unlimited could watch a display.

Spirit Day at Osceola Mills — September 12. Need to see if someone can man a MCWC booth.

Volunteers — WalMart Distribution Center has offered some volunteers if we need help with some projects. Kelly can coordinate.

New Membership Application Time — No new members.

Next meeting — Tuesday, August 25.
