Minutes
May 23, 2006
Meeting called to order by Art Beverage at 7:00 PM, followed by
the Pledge of Allegiance.
The agenda was adopted as is.
The minutes for April were approved with one correction.
Treasurer’s Report – No report this month.
Old Business:
Grant Status: Art received 4 packets from DEP. (Packets deal with
grants we received.)
Blue Pipe Discharge: Mario trying to arrange meeting
for all parties for the week of June 26. Carl volunteered Rachel
– Clearfield County water specialist. Art, Dave C., Kevin,
Ryan, Jen, Ann, Rachel will plan to attend.
Dominion/Western Pennsylvania Conservancy Grant:
Standard routine of fundraising – need influential board members
to accomplish something.
$500 grant - Carl Undercofler went to presentation
and received a plaque.
New Business:
Thank you letters (for Town Meeting Speakers): Plan a work session
at Art’s to get the letters done.
Thank you letters (Earth Day Clean-Up): There were
articles in the CDT and Journal, so letters may not be needed.
Fire Hall check and Banking: Dave Gustkey, treasurer,
not present at this meeting.
Property Owners: Art received phone calls from landowners
concerned about property access.
Insurance: We received 2 letters from H&S Insurance;
payment overdue and mail was stolen. We are to check with them about
stop payment, etc. Dave Gustkey will have to check status of payment
sent.
Wren Grant: We received $5,000 for outreach. Proposed
to do inserts in the CDT, Clearfield Progress, and the Philipsburg
Journal. We need to specify distribution areas. Sean proposed doing
possible multiple runs in same coverage areas. We need to maximize
our dollars however we determine. Mention our partners – do
something or mention something that they are doing. Promote ourselves,
partners, and educate about AMD. Sean also proposed tying inserts
to an event to gain more recruitment, and target upstream Moshannon
Creek, also educate as to some positive results that have occurred
and what we would like to do as well as what we are doing. Maybe
include Babs Creek as an example of landfill dollars and grants
used to clean up a watershed. Art and Gayle Beveridge will attend
grant presentation.
Growing Greener Grants: Moshannon Creek and Shimel
Run - Kevin and Ryan started assessing Shimel Run in May. Active
treatment system doesn’t seem to be working. They saw some
fish. They found 6 places to install weirs. Art wants to build them
in his garage. We will spend money from general budget for lumber
and reimburse from grants. Sean made a motion and Dave Cowfer seconded
it. The motion was passed. Michelle M. requested that we document
volunteer hours and mileage.
Also discussed was the need for 1 weir for top end
of Moshannon Creek. Carl will supply. We need to review construction
of V & H notch weirs. We plan to build the weirs at Art’s
on May 30, 2006.
Dues: Need to send reminders for dues, maybe generate
a letter or a card. We need to make sure to include Marni and Ryan
on the mailing list.
Land OK’d for building passive systems near
Black Diamond. Mr. Koltay and George Cowfer proposed numerous solutions
which Jen thinks it’s mostly agreeable.
Amfire Mining Company: Upper and lower seams –
Public comments will be closing soon regarding mining above 970.
We need to send a letter to DEP regarding remining deep seams to
help clean up AMD. Sean motioned to start letter, Carl seconded.
