Minutes
April 27, 2010
The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance at 7:00 PM. Art and Mike were absent, so Michelle facilitated the meeting.
Adoption of the Agenda — Accepted as written. Rich made the motion and Bruce seconded the motion. All were in favor.
Adoption of Minutes — The minutes were accepted as written with one minor change regarding the festival and vendors. Rich made the motion, Bruce seconded the motion, and all were in favor of accepting the minutes with the revision.
Treasurer’s Report — The treasurer was absent, so there was no treasurer’s report. Joan donated $5 that she had found while cleaning up Beaver Run.
Old Business:
Growing Greener Grant — The contract paperwork has been sent it. We still need landowner agreement forms. We also need 15% match. See next item.
Other Grants — We need 15% match for the Trout Run Growing Greener Grant. Michelle suggested the Office of Surface Mining as the source of match. We will need to get a Dun and Bradstreet number for the group to get the Federal money. Michelle will do the paperwork. The group voted unanimously to sign the application.
Trout Run — The archaeology study is done and submitted to the Historic and Museum Commission. Once we get Commission approval, we will submit the rest of the permit applications. The study did not find anything of archaeologic significance.
Constitution Change — Done at a previous meeting. No action.
Planning for Festival — Rich booked the porta-potties. It will cost $195 for 3, and MCWC will be billed directly. Rich also arranged for April Albright to bring the mini horses, and it will cost $100. Rich will ask Chris Ivic from the Game Commission to come to the festival.
Kelly spoke with Art and Mike, and they didn’t do the Clearfield County Recreation and Tourism Grant because it was for overnight stays and visitors from 50 miles away or more. She does have an application in for educational activities and hopes to hear in the next month.
Michelle went over a list of groups she is trying to get to bring displays to the festival. She will write up a list with status and give to Art.
Ann is going to check about the Centre County Foundation and a grant for the festival.
Spring Clean Up — Rich, Joan, Mike, David, and Michelle picked up trash in Houtzdale at Beaver Run, a dumpsite near Coal Run, and at Sandy Ridge. About ½ dozen people from the rails to trails did the trail as well. There were several people fishing in Beaver Run that day.
New Business:
These items weren’t formally added to the agenda but were discussed as the meeting went on.
Correspondence — We received a letter stating that the insurance policy premium was due. Michelle will give this to David to be paid. We also received a donation for the festival from Heath Funeral Home.
NPDES Permit — The public notice in the Progress that we discussed in March was for a water treatment facility to be located at the old Hawk Run DEP office to treat frac water from gas well drilling.
Trout in the Classroom — The Mo Valley School had an article in the Progress about Trout in the Classroom for their Junior High Students. This might be a good outreach activity for MCWC in West Branch or P.O.
