Meeting Minutes

April 25, 2006
Meeting called to order by Art Beverage at 7:00 PM, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

The agenda was adopted as is.

The minutes for February are approved as amended. The minutes from March approved as amended.

Treasurer’s Report – $2,345.39 in the bank. Wrote a check for insurance, which was $750.

Old Business:
Grant Status: No money received yet. Field work will start in the beginning of May. Art will find out if prisoners are ready to do weir work. Art and the Boy Scouts should be able to handle Shimel Run.

Blue Pipe Discharge: DEP plans on meeting with MCWC, Trout Unlimited, et al, regarding this matter. Growing Greener 1 and 2 funds will be used.

Laurel Run: Mario says supposedly there will be no adverse effects when all 5 treatment systems are shut down. A biologist is supposed to do a survey of streams Thursday, April 27, to ensure that no fish kills occur. The process to get stream re-designated is relatively easy.

Dominion/Western Pennsylvania Conservancy Grant: Carl Undercofler needs numbers for placemats. (5,000 placemats for $500) Mats will have map of watershed and MCWC “content”. Sean suggested that we target Philipsburg Journal to do placemats with paying advertisers. We need to get a quote from another printer to ensure newspaper pricing is competitive.

New Business:
Thank you letters (for Town Meeting Speakers): Need Thank You letters for town speakers, Earth Day sponsors, etc. and PA American Water, Coleman, Stone Valley, Clear Water Conservancy.

Thank you letters – Earth Day Clean-Up: We need to send Thank You’s to The Progress. Sean brought a motion to allocate funds ($50) to pay for a Thank You ad. Michael Malicki seconded the motion. Motion was passed. Also discussed was the need to put an article in the Philipsburg Journal.

Fire Hall Check ($50) – Town Meeting: David Gustkey needs to open new accounts and sign a check for $50 to the Columbia Fire Hall in Osceola Mills for the Town Meeting.

Little Laurel Run: Deb Koptchak is requesting that MCWC draft a letter of support to get the stream reclassified Chapter 93. This letter will not conflict with the Blue Pipe deal. David Gustkey will draft a letter. David made a motion to send the letter. Michael Malicki seconded it. The motion was passed.

No new memberships at this time.
