Meeting Minutes

March 27, 2007
Meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

All members present then agree to adopt the Agenda for the day meeting.

Treasurer’s Report:

  • TR 23/24 moved funding to TR 36/38 – 40/41
  • NMBS received check for $2090.00 for TR24 DES1006 invoice
  • Dave receives 2 invoices from NMBS for the Shimel Run and Moshannon Creek Assessment Grants
  • The group received the 2nd distribution of the WREN Grants of 40% which totaled $200.00
  • Someone needs to attend a WREN meeting on June 21 and 22 in Camp Hill, PA to receive the final installment.
  • Insurance was not yet paid, it was motioned by Carl to look into POWR insurance and if it is cheaper to change provider. Kevin seconds motion.
  • Balance of General Fund is $5317.39, which includes the WREN Grant money
  • Grant accounts:
    • Shimel Run $457.50
    • TR24 $3,910
    • TR23 $3,910
    • Mo Creek $4,859.97 (which accounts for $3342.50 invoice paid at meeting)

Old Business:
Mo Creek headwaters assessment – Kevin suggested when assessing next month take shovels and pipes to repair/ fix weir and pipes that may need fixed due to high flow events.

Placemats – received 10,000 to distribute to local restaurants, need to make a list of what restaurants will receive and how many

Art said we need to get webpage updated w/ the Mo Creek Festival and update on Mo Creek Assessment. Also Art want to count the # of hits on the website to see if placemats helped out

WREN Grant – waiting on pics and facts from Glass City Project

Clean-up April 21:

  • Art contacted John Glenn Sanitation and they said they will supply dumpster
  • Rush township was contacted to find a good site to clean up and if they would supply a truck
  • If needed, equipment for the clean up could be got through Clearwater Conservancy
  • The Osceola Mill Boy Scouts were contacted to help with the clean up.

New Business:
Shimel Run – Samples are being done be Jim Pollick

Moshannon Creek – Carl and Rachel did a Acid Rain Study in the Moshannon Creek Area which could be used when completing the restoration plan

Trout Run – Money moved to TR 36/38 and 40/41. Art will get key from Andy Coleman to access that site

Next sample collection dates are April 14th and 15th

Motion made by Carl to Sign match letter for Grant Application and Operation, Maintenance and Replacement seconded by Dave Guskey (Group in favor)

Motion made by Carl to sign support letter for WREN Grant. Kevin seconds (Group in favor)

Memorandum of Understanding will be reviewed by Art, if he so feels that MOU is acceptable the group will allow him to sign and return it to Becky

Dam Removal @ Dayton Dam – Fish and Boat Commission wants to put the MCWC as a partner for the project. Art agrees to talk it over with a member of the Commission and help out with the project.

Festival Aug. 26th:

  • Festival from 2–6…
  • Need to get some money donated for the festival
  • PA American Water was contacted to donate water for the event
  • Art wants to incorporate a Chili cookout for the festival

Ethanol Plant:

  • Want to put in at the Rushton Mine and pull clean water from Moshannon Creek
  • Art was to contact Mike Smith and set up a meeting with DEP to voice concerns over this project

Triathlon:

Rachel informs group of triathlon to be held at Curwensville Lake on May 5th at 7:30 - 8:00. Volunteers are needed to help out with the event.

Next Meeting:
The next meeting will be April 24, 2007 at 7:00 pm at the Rush Township building.
