Meeting Minutes

March 23, 2010

The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance at 7:00 pm.

Adoption of the Agenda — Accepted with four additions.

Adoption of Minutes — Accepted as written.

Treasurer’s Report — General Funds Balance: $10,579.62; Growing Greener Grants: TR36 Closed, TR40 Closed, Headwaters Closed, AMD Mo Creek Phase II $6633.83, MCFORE (New grant) $7,838.00.

Old Business:
Growing Greener Grant — MCWC was awarded $390,000 grant for construction of Trout Run systems.

Other Grants — Grant application was submitted for an American Water grant for newspaper inserts and high school student education/field trip. Some other grants were awarded to other local watersheds.

Trout Run — Archaeologist is still reviewing the site. Need to do a press release and an official groundbreaking with press and dignitaries. Once grant is made official, MCWC will have to do some paperwork with DEP. Once paperwork is done, construction phase will have to be put out for bid.

Constitution Change — Three changes to the MCWC constitution were voted upon and all passed. 1. The office of President-Elect was changed to Vice President. 2. The Vice President does not automatically become President after two years. 3. Nominees for the offices of President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary shall be members of the organization in good standing.  In addition, nominees for the office of President shall have served at least one term as an officer or member of the Board of Directors of the organization.

Planning for Festival — Osceola Mills Borough gave permission to use the park/pool for the watershed festival August 22, 2010. MCWC will be responsible for organization of free and informational aspects and vendors, while the pool committee will be in charge of the paying vendors and the food. Need to have an informal meeting at Art’s to plan and discuss the festival.

Spring Clean Up — April 17th. Still need to pick a site. Art has a call in to Veolia regarding a dumpster. Art will contact Rails to Trails group in Houtzdale.

New Business:
Girl Scouts/Brownies Email — Michelle volunteered to help the Girl Scouts/Brownies do a project for a badge.

Hawk Run — Someone has put in for a NPDES permit for industrial discharge into Hawk Run. MCWC should ask to see the permit.

Beaver Run — There are problems along Beaver Run in Houtzdale regarding mud and refuse.

Dayton Dam — Planning to remove it this spring. Clearwater Conservancy and PA Fish and Boat Commission need volunteers to collect seedlings to be raised off-site and then returned to the site in order to keep the native species thriving.

April 21 is the Source Water Protection seminar in Clearfield.
