  • Watershed is primarily forest with an extensive history of mining
  • Entire length is polluted by Abandoned Mine Drainage (AMD), except for extreme headwaters
  • Deep mining began in the area in the early 1800’s, strip mining started in the 1940’s
  • Contributes approximately 130,000 pounds per day of acid to the West Branch of the Susquehanna
  • Non-polluted streams in the watershed include Black Moshannon Creek, Cold Stream, Mountain Branch, Black Bear Run, Sixmile Run Creek, and headwaters of Trout Run
